Hello, fussball enthusiasts. Wie gehts? Everything good I trust on this excellent morning kickoff to the tenth week coming straight outta Deutschland. Berlin's Olympic Stadium to be precise where at 9:30 AM EST and 2:30 PM GMT the powerful Indianapolis Colts (7-2) take on the Falcons (three wins and five losses). This marks the fifth matchup played on soil in Germany and the first in the nation’s capital.
As sparkly jackets go that is an real standout from the Olympic figure skater on the coin toss. A slight fluff from the broadcast team there as we hear “who won the toss?” from the commentator with an unfortunately hot mic.
Well, the coin toss went to Indianapolis and have chosen to get the ball first. Daniel Jones and company will be taking the field soon. Will the QB bounce back after a rough one in their last game?
In a similar vein the singer belting out the Star Spangled Banner has some of the biggest shoulder embellishments you are bound to notice. The fashion picks are impressive today. We are almost underway after a choral number for the national anthem of Germany. Elegant.
Colts 0-0 Falcons 13:30, 1st quarter
And we're off! And we have early drama after Jonathan Taylor receives a short throw, gains 15 yards on the outside to the right side then fumbles … only for his center to save his bacon with the ball retrieval. Colts are in Falcons territory already.
Still scoreless at 10:51
And the drama keeps coming as the Indianapolis attempts a fourth-down conversion. The risk doesn't work out as Josh Downs fails to catch a fastball from Jones. Prior to the failed attempt Jessie Bates put a massive tackle on the Colts' tight end. The Falcons have come out fighting on defense as they try and snap their three-game losing streak. Following that, Sauce Gardner makes his first appearance!
TOUCHDOWN! Colts 6-0 Falcons 8:36, 1st quarter
Was that a missed touchdown by Kyle Pitts? The Falcons player makes a crucial error, he was very open but the ball just swishes through his hands. That moment reflects the high draft pick's professional journey to date.
A disappointing start but it only gets worse for the Falcons as they turn over possession to the Indianapolis on the 23-yard mark. Michael Penix Jr is sacked and fumbles the football.
A nifty 22-yard run from Ashton Dulin sets the running back up to easily run for a touchdown on the next snap. Kicker Michael Badgley skews the extra point wide. Mistake.
Falcons respond: 6-7 at 6:07
Penix Jr puts the fumble behind him by leading Atlanta on a long drive for a touchdown. The wide receiver makes some substantial catches to put them in the scoring area then the defense opens up for Tyler Allgeier to saunter on to the goal line through the heart of the field for 13 yards. The running back finishes it off for a short scoring run of his own. Advantage Atlanta.
And for afters, the full slate starting at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (with home teams first) is as follows:
(5-4) Panthers v New Orleans Saints (1-8)
(5-3) Chicago Bears v New York Giants (2-7)
(3-5) Houston Texans v Jaguars (5-3)
(2-7) Miami Dolphins v Buffalo Bills (6-2)
(4-4) Vikings v Baltimore Ravens (3-5)
(1-7) Jets v Browns (2-6)
(6-2) Tampa Bay Buccaneers v New England Patriots (7-2)
An exciting lineup. I’m planting my flag on Minnesota and Baltimore playing out the top contest of the day.
