It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the latest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.
The actors are slated to play Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. Industry whispers indicate their appearance will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth installment in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
The film's events are set in the years leading up to the first Hunger Games, spotlighting a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
